Registered Nurses

The number of registered nurses (RNs) employed in Minnesota's acute care hospitals increased 39 percent from 2000 to 2006. The ratio between full-time and part-time RNs changed slightly over the six-year period. In 2000, 75.8 percent of RNs were employed as part-time, while in 2006 the percentage decreased to 68.2 percent.

Clinical Staff

Clinical staff includes employees such as physicians, nurses, lab technicians and pharmacists. These employees work most directly with patient care. Non-clinical staff includes personnel such as dietary, housekeeping, security, medical records and administration.

LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse
OT & PT: Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist
NP & Phys Asst.: Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant


RN Staffing Levels

The number of RN full-time equivalents (FTEs) per adjusted day has trended upward from 2000 through 2006, increasing by 0.20 from 2000 to 2006.
